Curious George

I was recently asked to make a cake for a friend's lil boy's 2nd birthday party. I was excited to find out it was a Curious George cake! My youngest son has loved George forever. I made a small chocolate cake and frosted it with yellow butter cream. I  made the tree and  tree leaves out of gum paste before I had made the cake allowing them to dry before hand. I dyed the gum paste then shaped the tree over a straw. After it dried I painted more food coloring on it for a more realistic look. I then made the balloons, the hat,the bananas, and letters out of fondant.  After all the things were dry and the cake was frosted I added everything and I was so excited to see how great it turned out!! They added Curious when they got to their location! I was pleased they were happy with it!

4th Of July Cake

I made an awesome cake for the 4th of July. I got the idea from a fellow blogger and made the interior of the cake layered to look like the American flag. I then decorated with cookies and candy stars. I made sugar cookies and drizzled them with colored powered sugar icing, then added them to the bottom of the cake. I also frosted some cookies and added colored sugar and used them as the topper to the cake. I was trying to create the look of fireworks bursting on top but didnt get the effect I was going for. It tasted great and was all gone by the end of the day!!

Rainbow Dash

Rainbow Dash:
A friend of mine asked me to make a cake for her daughter’s birthday. I say no problem, so she says Rainbow Dash, I say no biggie. I love Rainbow Dash as a kid. I drew up a drawing of the pony. Well she informed me Rainbow Dash has been revamped so to speak!! She now has wings and has a punk mane and tail. Still cute as ever though, so I redrew her and took on the challenge. It took me about 4 hrs total to decorate. I started with an outline then just went by my drawing freehanding everything . Once done with her I realized it was still missing something so I added the clouds, sun, and grass. I was very happy with the way it turned out I didn’t want to let it go..lol.  I heard she liked it which I made me so happy!! My own daughters now want a Rainbow Dash cake for their birthday!!

Baby Shower Cupcakes:

A friend of mine was having a baby girl and I was asked to make cupcakes for her shower. I tried out a new double chocolate cake recipe. I was hoping it was going to be fab!! After baking  and cooling, I cut the center out. Why you ask? I then filled them with white and dark chocolate ganache. Then replaced the tops I had cut out. Then, I frosted with homemade to die for buttercream dyed pink. I hadn't sampled one before I went to the shower, but the husband and kids had and said they were delish. At the shower they got rave reviews!! Even got a few new orders from it!! I am now calling them Chocolate Heaven cupcakes!!

The Cat in the Hat:

So my cousin was having her son's first birthday and doing the Cat in the Hat theme. I googled some ideas and found one she liked and tried to replicate it best I could. It was a 3 tired cake. The layers were covered in homemade fondant that I had dyed bright colors. I haven't worked a lot with fondant because many people don't care for the flavor. The top layer is supposed to replicate his hat. I couldn’t get it crooked like it’s supposed to be and it was white fondant that I hand painted the stripes on. The balls around the bottom are fondant as well. It turned out well but it wasn’t as great as I expected. I also made a small smash cake as well that was frosted in buttercream with small fondant accents. She was pleased which made me happy!!
